RAILFAST Intermodal Limited

We are innovators in engineering, transport and logistics, working with other innovators, commercial partners, academia, grant funders and the third sector to nurture early stage projects to the point of commercialisation.

The large-scale, high-impact nature of the types of our projects we support can result in incubation lasting many years.  The RAILFAST Project (RAIL Freight using Automated Sorting in Transit, which does for palletised freight what the Travelling Post Offiice did for letters) has been running since 1998. When it was initially conceived it was seen as 'too far ahead of its time', but recent developments in Internet shopping and the needs of ‘Fast, Frequent Fulfilment’ (F3) have given the project new life.

Originally incorporated to incubate and market RAILFAST, the company's role has expanded over the years to include support for innovation within the Engineering sector, as well as Transport & Logistics. Currently, we work very closely with staff and students at University of Birmingham, where we help shape exciting and stimulating projects for students to work on as part of their Degree course and which, in turn, support us with our incubation.

We are proud to have been chosen by Jordans Consultancy to support the K6 'York' Rotary Engine Project, in both its Internal Combustion (IC) and steam variants. We anticipate the building and testing of the first IC prototype sometime in 2021-22, with the first steam prototype due to follow soon after.
